"I have now got skills, more confidence and the ability to speak in public."
19 year old Adam signed up to Springboard in July 2016 for support with finding employment.
Adam struggled at school and although he gained some qualifications he felt they were not good enough to get a good job. Housing and personal problems after leaving school left him unclear about his future and options available to him.
A support plan was put in place for Adam. He set his own goals and his Springboard mentor worked at his pace.
Adam decided he wanted to go on a course with Cat Zero as this was a great opportunity for him to gain some valuable skills and experience. Adam successfully completed the course and felt he gained “public speaking confidence”, something he previously avoided.
Adam and his Springboard mentor looked at progression routes and YPSS purchased interview clothing for him as he did not have any.
Adam is currently undertaking literacy and numeracy qualifications to increase his qualification levels alongside interview skills, CV writing and employability skills with his Springboard mentor. Adam hopes to progress onto a traineeship and eventually an apprenticeship or employment.
Adam was asked to describe what Springboard support means to him. His response was “I would definitely recommend it, I have now got skills, more confidence and the ability to speak in public. I think these are all good things to have”.
